Dear Tandem fiends,
Monika and Jörg would like to welcome you to the second tandemrally in Neuburg at the Danube river.
From the beer garden of the Sporthotel Neuburg we can enjoy the view of the imposing Neuburg Castle and the picturesque upper old town. The old town can be reached by tandem in just a few minutes, and both the train station and the hotel are in the immediate vicinity - all within easy reach.
Neuburg is characterized by its majestic castle façade with its striking round towers and is now considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance towns in Bavaria. In 2005, the "State Gallery of Flemish Baroque Painting" was opened in the castle, which is another cultural highlight.
The planned tandem routes take us east to Manching and Ingolstadt, south-east to Schrobenhausen, south to the moated castle of Sandizell and Scheyern Abbey, west to Donauwörth and Harburg Castle, where you can experience not only the beauty of the landscape, but also local sayings such as "Holzauge sei wachsam" (watch out for wood eyes). In the north, the route extends as far as the Eichstätt Jura.
It is only really flat in the Donaumoos. (Haus im Moos environmental education center, open-air museum, bison project or the Moospegel). But at the edge of the moss it gets hillier. Over to Schrobenhausen (Lenbach town in asparagus country) and back via Hohenwart, it is almost a bit hilly.
The landscape is not only diverse, but also rich in history. We encounter traces of the Celts and Romans everywhere, be it in the fort in Pfünz or in the Villa Rustica in Möckenlohe. There is even a special Celtic and Roman museum in Manching. Through the Urdonau valley, also known as the "valley without water", the route leads past the Mauern caves from the Stone Age and the Stone Man to Konstein, the venue of the Woodstock of extreme climbers in 1981.
For cycling enthusiasts, there are extensive networks of supra-regional importance, including the Danube Cycle Path and the Altmühl Cycle Path. Regional cross-connections such as the Via Raetica cycle path, the Urdonautal cycle path and the Ingolstadt-Eichstätt cycle path also contribute to a varied and fascinating tandem tour.
We look forward to a shared tandem adventure in this historic and scenically impressive region!
